Arab Knowledge Report 2014: Youth and Localisation of Knowledge
The report builds on the two previous reports: the “Arab Knowledge Report 2009: Towards Productive Intercommunication for Knowledge” and the “Arab Knowledge Report 2010/2011: Preparing Future Generations for the Knowledge Society”. The two reports had highlighted many of the shortcomings and gaps in the Arab knowledge systems, while noting the possibility of dealing with such shortcomings and bridging the gaps if there is a political and social will for mobilization of the required resources to build the aspired knowledge society.
This current report underlines the challenge of integrating youth in the transfer and localization of knowledge. Within this framework, the report investigates the situation of Arab youth in terms of the way they acquire skills and values that would be critical for the localization of knowledge. The report reviews the existing enabling environments and explores the possibilities for new openings to expand the opportunities for youth and to enhance their abilities.
A national report on the United Arab Emirates was produced alongside the Third Regional Report.
